Maximum RA in DAMSTAB vs. RAH
Question: I am using the command DAMSTAB in order to get the maximum RA for some different cases of damage stability. In the same way I am using the command RAH to obtain the RA vs Angle curve for the same damage stability cases. When I compare the results obtained, the maximum RA obtained using DAMSTAB corresponds to the value of RA at 20 degrees in the curve, not at the maximum Righting Arm shown there. What has happened? Answer:      The Probabilistic Damage rules specify that the RAmax be taken within a range not exceeding 20° past the equilibrium angle. See SOLAS "Subdivision and damage stability" Part B-1, Regulation 25-6.
